Complete guide to selling cryptocurrency on Binance

After buying crypto, there will come a time when you want to sell — whether to lock in profits or to convert to USDT for buying something else. Selling on Binance is essentially the reverse of buying. You can sell by logging into Binance Official, or through the Binance Official APP to sell from your phone anytime. iPhone users can refer to the iOS Installation Guide for app installation.

Two Ways to Sell Crypto for USDT on Binance

There are two main ways to convert your crypto to USDT on Binance. Choose the one that suits you best:

Method 1: Sell via Spot Trading

This is the most common method and works for everyone. Here are the steps:

  1. Go to the trading page: Log in to Binance, click "Trade" > "Spot"
  2. Search for the trading pair: In the search box on the left, enter the name of the token you want to sell. For example, to sell BTC, search for "BTC" and select the "BTC/USDT" trading pair
  3. Select sell: Click the "Sell" tab in the order area (usually in red)
  4. Choose your order type: A market order sells at the current price immediately; a limit order lets you set your preferred price
  5. Enter the sell quantity: Enter the amount you want to sell, or use the percentage slider to sell a portion of your holdings
  6. Confirm the sale: Click the "Sell" button to complete the transaction

If you use a market order, the USDT will immediately appear in your spot account balance.

Method 2: Use the Convert Feature

Binance's Convert feature is even simpler and is especially great for beginners unfamiliar with the trading page:

  1. Click "Trade" > "Convert"
  2. Select the token you want to sell on top, e.g., BTC
  3. Select USDT on the bottom
  4. Enter the amount — the system will show you exactly how much USDT you'll receive in real time
  5. Confirm the swap

Convert is extremely easy to use with zero fees, though the exchange rate may differ very slightly from spot trading — the difference is usually minimal.

Things to Keep in Mind When Selling

Make Sure Your Crypto Is in the Spot Account

If your tokens are in the Earn account, Futures account, or Funding account, you need to transfer them to the Spot account first before you can sell on the spot market. To transfer: go to "Wallet" > "Wallet Overview," click "Transfer," and select the transfer from your other account to the Spot account.

Choose the Right Trading Pair

The same token may have multiple trading pairs, such as BTC/USDT, BTC/BUSD, and BTC/USDC. Generally, stick with BTC/USDT since it has the best liquidity and deepest order books, giving you the best execution price.

Tips for Selling Large Amounts

If you're selling a large amount (say, tens of thousands of USDT worth), consider selling in batches or using limit orders. Dumping a large quantity with a single market order can eat through too many buy orders, causing significant slippage and resulting in less USDT than expected.

How to Cash Out USDT to Your Local Currency

After selling your crypto for USDT, if you want to convert it to fiat currency, you can sell USDT through Binance's C2C (P2P) trading:

  1. Go to "Buy Crypto" > "C2C Trading"
  2. Select "Sell" > "USDT"
  3. Choose your payment method (e.g., bank transfer, PayPal, etc.)
  4. Select a suitable buyer and click "Sell"
  5. Wait for the buyer to send payment to your account
  6. After confirming you've received the funds, release the USDT to the buyer

The entire C2C process is protected by Binance's escrow. Your USDT is held by the platform until you confirm receipt of payment, so there's no need to worry about security.

FAQ

Q: Is there a minimum amount for selling?

A: Yes, Binance's spot trading minimum order is generally around 10 USDT. If the value of the tokens you hold is too small to meet this threshold, you can use the Convert feature instead — it has much lower minimums for small amounts.

Q: Are there fees for selling?

A: The spot trading fee for selling is 0.1%, deducted from the proceeds. For example, if you sell and receive 1,000 USDT, you actually get 999 USDT (1 USDT deducted as a fee). The Convert feature is labeled as zero-fee, but a small spread is built into the quoted price.

Q: My balance shows tokens but I can't sell them. Why?

A: This could be because: your tokens are frozen in an open order (check "Open Orders" for any unfilled orders); your tokens are in the Earn or Futures account and haven't been transferred to the Spot account; or the token is currently under maintenance and trading is temporarily suspended.
